In order to facilitate synchronous communication within BSCW (set-up of computer conferencing links, instant messaging) you may provide the necessary information by selecting  Options    Profile    Communication . This brings up the ‘Change Personal Communication Profile’ form:

• User directory lookup address / Directory services — specify whether and at which email address you are listed in what online directories (‘White Pages’) that are supported by BSCW.
• Communication capabilities — BSCW identifies the IP address used by your computer automatically. However, the result may not be correct if you use a proxy server or work behind a firewall. In this case, you should specify the IP address to be used by BSCW for synchronous communication.
  Depending on your computer network, there are different ways to determine this address — if in doubt ask your system or network administrator.
• Communication accessories — specify the computer conferencing programs that are available on your computer. Correct specifications and the appropriate configuration of your browser enable BSCW to automatically set up links to partners with suitable equipment (see 4.5.1.1).
• Instant messaging — specify whether and under which user id you want to use the ICQ system.
