4.10.3 Finding BSCW documents
If an indexing service has been installed with your BSCW server you may apply a quick search for documents based on their contents. The indexing service usually runs once a day and prepares all new BSCW documents for a content-based search.
In the ‘Edit Query’ form of a document search you specify your search query in the field ‘Search in your documents ... for’. The field label mentions the indexing service applied, that also determines the query language. Currently there are two indexing services used with BSCW:
- Microsoft Indexing Service (Windows platform), see http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/indexsrv/html/ixqlang_92xx.asp for the query syntax;
- SWISH++ (UNIX platform), see http://homepage.mac.com/pauljlucas/software/swish/man/search.pdf for the query syntax.
Simple queries just list the words looked for separated by blanks. More sophisticated queries are also possible, please consult the links given above.
BSCW will display the list of documents matching the query as a folder listing. The description of each document names the folder that contains the document. Make sure that you have activated the option .
