A community is a folder that with respect to accessibility lies somewhere between a public folder and a shared workspace. A community is either open, i.e. any interested user may join, or semi-open, i.e. membership requires prior consent of the community managers. The list of existing communities of a BSCW server may be viewed by every user so that users with similar interests may join up (see 7).
