3.6 Metadata attributes

BSCW objects have system-defined attributes such as creation date or owner name whose values are set by the system. You may use additional attributes either taken from a subset of the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set (such as “(DC) Title”, “(DC) Author” or “(DC) Language”) or defined by yourself.

Values for user-selected or user-defined attributes must be entered manually. All attributes may be used in BSCW searches: the BSCW search form offers to include all attributes as search parameters (see 4.10.2). User-selected and user-defined attributes are shown in the info page of an object as long as they have a value assigned; Dublin Core attributes with values assigned are also shown along with the object entry in a folder listing.

In order to assign values to the Dublin Core attributes or to change values already assigned, you select action menu   Change    Attributes  and enter the values in the attributes’ form sheet. If you don’t need an attribute any longer, delete its value.

If you want to define your own attributes, you also select action menu   Change    Attributes . At the bottom of the attributes’ form you may enter the name and value of your attribute. For input of further attributes click [Again]. In the same form, you may also delete attributes or attribute values.
