Compiler technology for emulators and virtual machines (Autumn 2007/I)
Emulators are used for a multitude of purposes. Considering handsets and other mobile terminal devices, they are used both in the development of the products and in the products themselves. The implementation techniques depend on the use. For example, for virtual machines in the products different implementations are needed than for emulators that are used for testing the low-level software of multimedia handsets.
The seminar concentrates emulators and especially latest developments in compilers that are applies in virtual machines and other execution platforms. Various compilation techniques can be used instead of the traditional interpretative techniques. In addition to this, the overall implementation of emulators will be reviewed.

The seminar is based on material available in papers published in scientific journals, conferences, workshops etc.

Seminar presentation and an extented abstract.
Prerequisites
The seminar primarily meant for students having software systems as their major topic. Knowledge on compilers, operating systems, and typical hardware in mobile devices is useful.
