HUT Planning Systems Group studies the application of methods created in the field of artificial intelligence to practical problems in operations planning. The name of the group reflects the central aspects of our research.
The recent research projects have dealt with the planning problems of industrial projects where large products are delivered to external customers. The research questions include:
- How to generate an activity network for a project and how to maintain it throughout the execution of the project?
- How to specify the virtual enterprise (a network of agents or a project consortium) that can carry out the project?
- How to apply the results in project planning to repetitive operations between networked companies?
The group has for more than ten years worked with major companies in Finland, and the research has resulted in many planning and scheduling applications.
