Spring 2003: AI Planning

Content

The area of the seminar is AI planning: planning techniques as studied in the field of artificial intelligence. The focus is mostly on STRIPS-style planning. The goal is to get acquainted with the basic planning methods and their recent developments.

Seminar
format

Each participant prepares a seminar report about one of the topics listed below. The topics are assigned in the beginning of the seminar. Each participant identifies the relevant material for the report, develops the report in successive stages during the seminar, and gives various presentations dealing with the area of the report.

Schedule

Seminar meetings will be held in the meeting room A232 in the CS-building. The schedule is the following:

from 9 to 12
First meeting
The participants select topics. More detailed instructions are given.
Tue 25.3.2003
from 14 to 20
Second meeting
The participants give a preliminary report on their efforts including a lecture about one basic algorithm associated with their topic, a list of articles their plan to read for the final report, an initial concept map of the area, and an initial table of contents of the report.
Tue 15.4.2003
from 14 to 20
Third meeting
The participants give a second report on their efforts including an overview of the material, a detailed plan for the final report, and a concept map of the area.
Tue 13.5.2003

Final meeting
The participants give their final reports (oral lecture and printed text).

Language

Seminar presentations can be made in Finnish or in English.


Prerequisites

Course T-93.440 (or a similar course) and familiarity with the issues discussed in the background material.


Requirements
to pass

Active participation in all the seminar meetings and the completion of the seminar report.


Credit points

Seminar is worth 2 credit points. It is possible to get an extra point (3 in total) for additional work on planning software. Grading is pass or fail.
